Counseling for Anxiety

Do you feel overwhelmed even thinking about day to day tasks? Does it feel like you are on the verge of losing control? Have you already tried therapy but found it ineffective?

If this sounds like you, I’m confident I can help. The services I offer include natural and effective forms of treatment, resulting in relief from symptoms of anxiety.

When it comes to treating anxiety disorders, research shows that therapy is usually the most effective option. That’s because anxiety therapy - as opposed to anxiety medication - treats more than just symptoms of the problem. Anxiety is often rooted in unresolved trauma and is alleviated through processing previous events, allowing the memories of those events to be consolidated.

When people have unresolved trauma, naturally, their brain wants to protect them, and is wired for protection. The problem is, when that signal gets crossed and alerts for danger when the situation is not a "true" emergency (for example feeling terrified to speak in public, worrying about an impending social interaction, or fretting about driving after an accident).

Trauma treatment uses bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones) to connect both hemispheres of the brain and allows for the brain to "digest" and integrate the experiences. As memories naturally get consolidated through the bilateral stimulation, the mind becomes clearer and people become more decisive, they develop deeper understandings, they are more present, they can remember more, and their symptoms of anxiety decrease!

Symptoms of anxiety include:

  • Nervousness, restlessness, or being tense
  • Feelings of danger, panic, or dread
  • Rapid breathing or hyperventilation
  • Increased or heavy sweating
  • Trembling or muscle twitching
  • Weakness or lethargy
  • Difficulty focusing or thinking clearly about anything other than the thing you’re worried about
  • Insomnia
  • Obsessions about certain ideas; a sign of obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • Anxiety surrounding a particular life event or experience that has occurred in the past; a sign of post-traumatic stress disorder

Holistic therapy can help to uncover the underlying causes of your stress, worries and fears, and assist in resolving them through developing coping skills, relaxation techniques, processing and integrating previous experiences, and learning to problem-solve, set boundaries, and communicate needs.
