Winter Solstice

Merry Winter Solstice to you all!  I hope this blog post finds you well, soft in mind, warm in heart, gentle in spirit.  The Winter Solstice is my favorite day of the year.  This year seems to be particularly auspicious with the numerology being 12/21/21.  The Winter Solstice marks the first day of winter, which signals our journey into hibernation.

The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of the year, the darkest.  Tomorrow we harken the return of the Light.  The Winter Solstice is a great day to be in meditation or prayer.  It’s a great day for taking stock and spending time with those we are closest with.  It’s a great day for reflection.

Here are some of my favorite traditions for making the most of the Winter Solstice:

-Get up early and do some yoga/meditation
-Reflect on what went well this year and what we can be grateful for
-Create a vision board
-Eat nourishing warm foods
-Participate in or create a fire ceremony (This can be as simple as sitting with a toothpick in front of a candle.  Make note of everything that didn’t serve you well in mind, body, spirit and set an intention to let that go, on every level, throughout every dimension of space/time, then blow that into the toothpick and give the toothpick to the fire.  Then bring your hands to hover above the fire, motion the hands towards the body, and invite the fire/light to fill the space you’ve created through the release with renewed and refreshed energy)
-Do something nice for yourself or someone else
-Reflect or journal and contemplate what we can do differently (individually and collectively) to bring more light into the world (whatever that means to you- to me, bringing the Light means Be-ing present, helping others, doing the work I came here to do, remembering who I AM, and being the best me I can be

May you Always Walk in Beauty and enjoy the darkest days with the deepest knowing that your inner Light will always illuminate the pathway
